A Childhood in Poland
Shulem Deen was born in the small village of Wolpa, Poland, in 1924. His parents were devout Jews, and they raised their children in a traditional Jewish home. Deen's childhood was happy and carefree, and he enjoyed playing with his friends and attending school. However, everything changed in 1939, when the Nazis invaded Poland.
The Nazis quickly occupied Wolpa, and they began to persecute the Jewish population. Deen's family was forced to live in a ghetto, and they were subjected to constant fear and violence. In 1942, the Nazis liquidated the ghetto, and Deen's family was sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp.
Auschwitz
Auschwitz was a living hell. Deen and his family were forced to live in overcrowded barracks, and they were given little food or water. They were also subjected to constant beatings and torture. Deen's parents and siblings were all killed at Auschwitz, but he managed to survive by hiding in the barracks and ng whatever work he was assigned.
In 1945, the Soviet army liberated Auschwitz, and Deen was finally free. He weighed only 75 pounds, and he was suffering from typhus and malnutrition. However, he was alive, and he was determined to rebuild his life.
Immigration to the United States
After the war, Deen immigrated to the United States, where he eventually settled in New York City. He worked hard to learn English and to find a job. He also met and married his wife, and they had two children.
Deen never forgot his experiences during the Holocaust, and he dedicated his life to speaking out against hatred and intolerance. He spoke to students, community groups, and anyone who would listen. He also wrote several books about his experiences, including All Who Go Do Not Return.
A Powerful and Moving Memoir
All Who Go Do Not Return is a powerful and moving memoir that tells the story of one man's survival and resilience. Deen's story is a reminder of the horrors of the Holocaust, but it is also a story of hope and redemption. Deen's experiences during the war taught him the importance of compassion, forgiveness, and perseverance. He dedicated his life to fighting hatred and intolerance, and his story continues to inspire people around the world.
If you are interested in learning more about the Holocaust, or if you are looking for a powerful and moving story of survival and resilience, then I highly recommend reading All Who Go Do Not Return.
