The Oakville was laid down at the Burrard Dry Dock Company in North Vancouver, British Columbia, on 16 March 1943, and was launched on 29 September 1943. The ship was commissioned into the RCN on 28 March 1944.

Construction

The Oakville was a well-armed and well-equipped warship. The ship was armed with two 4-inch guns, two 40 mm Bofors guns, and six 20 mm Oerlikon cannons. The ship also had a hedgehog anti-submarine mortar and depth charge racks.

Service in World War II

The Oakville served with the RCN during World War II as part of the Western Approaches Command. The ship was primarily used as an escort for convoys in the North Atlantic Ocean.

The Oakville participated in a number of convoy escort missions during the war, including Operation Husky, the invasion of Sicily in July 1943, and Operation Overlord, the invasion of Normandy in June 1944.
