It was Christmas Eve, and young Billy was feeling very lonely. He had no friends, and his parents were always too busy with work to spend much time with him. Billy wished for nothing more than a friend to share the holiday with.

That night, as Billy was walking home from school, he saw a stray dog sitting on the side of the road. The dog was thin and matted, and it looked very sad. Billy felt sorry for the dog, so he took it home with him.

One Christmas Eve, Billy and Max were playing in the snow when they came across a group of bullies. The bullies started to pick on Billy, but Max wouldn't let them. He stood in front of Billy and barked at the bullies until they went away.

Billy was so grateful to Max for protecting him. He knew that Max was more than just a friend; he was a true hero.
